In April 1989, the African-American Summit includes support for reparations in its concluding document: “We call for reparations. If they are good enough for the Japanese-Americans and Native Americans, they are good for those of us who worked for hundreds of years unpaid, and who now need that capital for our own development in this country?” (Salim Muwakkil, Black America: Blacks call for reparations to break the shackles of the past, In These Times (Oct. 11-17, 1989), p. 6)
